I am not my own

God's property tag

Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honour God with your bodies.

– 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

I am property!

It’s a weird concept to grapple with in a world where I am taught not to care what others think and to follow my heart’s desire because I belong to no one except myself.

Paul challenges our tendency towards self-absorption and narcissism. He constantly warns us against putting misplaced value upon ourselves.

God paid the highest price for me. Not because I’m worth it. Not because I earned it. But because He loves me so much.

I am His. And miraculously, undeservedly, that makes me precious in His sight. (Click to tweet)

I’m happy to belong to Him. How about you?

Worth does not come from Self

You’re only as good as your last picture

– Marie Dressler, actress

We talk a lot about self-worth in this world, which implies that our worth comes from ourselves.

If worth really comes from the self, then that career/family/partner/beauty/success/admiration/project* defines me and I’ll only be as good as my last performance.
